Shawnee Valentines by Kindergarten
The kindergarten class painted Valentine pictures by rolling marbles in a small amount of paint over paper in a heart-shaped cake pan to get an effect they liked. Here are some of the variations they came up with.

"Tree of Life"
Students used gold metallic paint and sequins on brown paper to design their own versions of the "Tree of Life" motif often depicted by the famous Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky.

Patterns, Textures, and Hands
Using two colors, Woodlands students made a simple checkerboard pattern. They then made tracings of their hands on paper they textured and colored, and mounted the handprints on the checkered background.

Third Grade Winter Skylines
A variety of city skylines sprang to life as student made buildings of black paper on a dark blue background and added lighted windows and skies full of painted snowflakes.
Second Grade Gingerbread Men
We decorated brown construction-paper gingerbread men using fabric and colored paper and then arranged them in a happy circle.

Woodlands Intermediate School Snowmen
In January, third- and fourth-graders made snowmen by covering plastic bottles with papier-mache, which they then painted white. The snowmen's outfits and faces were created using buttons, fabric and ribbon scraps, stick-on googly eyes, and marker. Some wear caps made from the toes of old socks.

Third Grade Castles
I read to the children from a book about castles, then students drew their own castles and completed the pictures with watercolors.
Shawnee Second Grade Snowmen
After I read the class "Snowmen at Night," the students used chalk on dark paper, with crayon for details, to create these lively, personable snowpeople, smiling and even dancing in the moonlight.
